My involvement with Boer goats spans 12 years split into three categories, as a breeder of both traditional Boer goats and Red Boers, show development plus the showing of goats and judging. Over the past six years I have undertaken a personal goal to improve the understanding the breed in NZ by inviting top South African judges to judge our shows and to hold schools to further educate our breeders. In 2005 I passed the level one judges course and in 2008 I travelled to 'Terraweena' in Australia to sit and pass the level two judges course. Also in 2008 I had the opportunity to spend time in South Africa and attend their National Boer Goat Champs - 800 Boer goats on display with one class being 60 strong. I hope my new understanding of the breed and the first hand knowledge of how it was developed and exported around the world can be transferred to new and existing breeders where ever my passion takes me.
